Twitter ZipDial , a company that specializes in mobile marketing in markets where mobile Internet access is an exception.
The Indian ZipDial operation is based on conducting promotions that start offline, by printing a phone number that accepts calls specifically for the purpose of the campaign (e.g. a contest). When the user calls this number, the call is briefly disconnected, resulting in no charge (essentially making a missed call). With this, declared, interest in participating, the user receives an SMS message or a voice message on the mobile phone from which they called.
In this way, users become recipients of content for free, a tactic that is particularly effective where mobile Internet access is very expensive, especially in other cases of use of ZipDial's platform that involves extracting content from the Internet. Among them, sending sports scores, tweets from Bollywood stars, radio and television schedules and more. "In this way, we will bring Twitter to more people around the world," the company states, without however making it clear that it will not be limited to sending free advertising tweets.
According to TechCrunch, the acquisition of ZipDial cost around $30-40 million, although the amount was not disclosed.
