US Administration Twitter and YouTube Breach

TwitterWhile Obama delivered remarks to the FTC and prepared new cybersecurity laws, the Twitter and YouTube of the United States Central Command were hacked by a group of hackers known by the nickname “CyberCaliphate,” who claim to be affiliated with ISIS.

“ ISIS is already here, we are on your computers, on every military base,” the hackers said in one of the tweets. A US official confirmed the breach, according to NBC News .

On the YouTube page of the United States Central Command (CENTCOM), hackers published a propaganda video in support of ISIS.

In Twitter messages, hackers supporting ISIS suggest they have penetrated deeper into the networks of the United States Central Command after including images depicting spreadsheets with the names and addresses of members of the US Military.

An anonymous user on Pastebin wrote the following:

Pentagon networks hacked
AMERICAN SOLDIERS,
WE ARE COMING, WATCH YOUR BACKS. ISIS. #CyberCaliphate

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful, the CyberCaliphate under the auspices of ISIS continues its CyberJihad. While the US and its satellites kill our brothers in Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan, we have broken into their networks and personal devices to know everything.

You will see no mercy infidels. ISIS is already here, we are in your computers, in every military base. By Allah's permission we are in CENTCOM now.
We will not stop! We know everything about you, your wives and children.
American soldiers! We are watching you!

Then there is a link to a .zip file called “US Army Files,” which apparently includes lists of names, addresses, and contact information for Army officers, as well as budget documents from the previous year.

Despite the fact that this is a major breach, none of the information that was leaked appears to be terribly sensitive. A Pentagon official told the Wall Street Journal that none of the released data was top secret. Some of it is readily available on public websites.

The United States Central Command says it is "taking appropriate measures to address the issue.".

At the time of writing, CENTCOM's Twitter and YouTubehave both been suspended.
