Facebook appears to be following Google 's example , taking steps to provide Internet access to areas with poor infrastructure.
To achieve this Facebookwill use drones, these unmanned aircraft, which in this case will be the size of a Boeing 747 and will fly from 18 to 27 kilometers (60 thousand and 90 thousand feet respectively) high.
Facebook has also created the Connectivity Lab , which, along with Mark Zuckerberg's new venture, internet.org, will be responsible for the entire project.
The way the project works is quite simple, the Connectivity Lab will "produce" technology that will be applied to drones and will offer connectivity via internet.org.
Because Facebook is for drones to fly continuously for months, cutting-edge technologies from the solar and battery sectors will be incorporated, while one operator will be able to control from 10 to 100 drones.
Google, with the acquisition of Titan Aerospace, has already launched a similar program to provide Internet connectivity, while the previous venture with balloons has been abandoned, while Google's plan to provide Internet via satellites is more ambitious.
