The Cybercrime Prosecution Directorate investigated a case of child pornography and illegal infiltration of computer systems and networks
A police operation was organized and carried out in the Giannitsa area for the case
A case was filed against a 17-year-old Greek national, who was a co-administrator of a social networking website profile, through which he had received threats from a minor residing abroad to send personal indecent photographs
The Cybercrime Prosecution Directorate investigated a case of child pornography and illegal infiltration of computer systems and networks, for which a police operation was organized and carried out in the Giannitsa area.
A regular procedure file was filed against a 17-year-old Greek national, a resident of the Giannitsa area. As it turned out, the 17-year-old was a co-administrator – along with a person in a foreign country – of a social networking website profile, through which he had received threats from a minor residing in the foreign country, to send her photos with obscene content.
Regarding the history of the case, the Cybercrime Prosecution Directorate was informed by the authorities of the aforementioned foreign country about a case of child pornography, via a social networking website, during the investigation of which electronic traces emerged in Greek territory. At the same time, for the same case, the involvement of an individual in the said country had also emerged.
In particular, a minor residing in this country had received threats from a user of the social networking website's profile to send personal indecent photographs, which she did.
To clarify the case, the Cybercrime Prosecution Directorate conducted a thorough digital investigation and analysis and identified three domestic internet service providers that had been used to operate the profile in question.
The confidentiality of the communications was lifted, following a prosecutor's order, and the three local operators-owners of the said internet connections were identified, in the Giannitsa area.
From the police operation, which was planned and carried out in the area by a specialized unit of the Cybercrime Investigation Unit, it emerged that the co-administrator of the controversial profile on the social networking website was the 17-year-old son of one of the above.
Furthermore, from the ongoing preliminary investigation and on-site specialized technical investigation, it emerged that the perpetrator had also violated - penetrated the wireless networks - internet connections of the other two aforementioned individuals, using special software programs and was using them to make it difficult to locate him.
During the investigation, one (1) internal hard drive was found and seized, which will be sent to the Criminal Investigations Directorate for laboratory tests.
The case file drawn up for the case will be submitted to the competent Prosecution Authority. Furthermore, the aforementioned foreign national, who is involved in the same case, has been arrested by the competent foreign Authorities.
