Greek software “powers” online stores with videos

logismiko-thumb-largeThousands of videos for a wide range of products sold online are posted daily on social networks such as YouTube. Through them, a multitude of people describe their experiences using a product, whether they are individual consumers or members of groups who seek to become active in the field as impartial product evaluators.

Based on this fact, as well as research revealing that the presence of a video on a product's online page increases the likelihood of a website visitor purchasing it by 64%, software engineers Dimitris Kourtesis and Konstantinos Bratanis decided to take the initiative to engage in business activities in the above direction.

At first, they tried to find out if there was a similar service that could “feed” online stores with such videos. When they realized that this was not the case, they tested their idea in entrepreneurship competitions abroad. After winning second place in the business idea competition held as part of the start-up weekend in Sheffield, England, and third place in the e-commerce category of the international competition Global Start Up Battle, organized online from Seattle, USA, they entered the process of establishing the company “Goodvid.io”, which is currently implementing a pilot program for the implementation of a related software.

“This software helps online stores improve the visitor's browsing experience in an online store by adding videos from YouTube and Vimeo that describe the products. In addition, the software records the videos that have the greatest impact, based on data such as the time a visitor spends on the page, the viewing of the video in question, the number of times it was viewed and whether a purchase was made or not. In this way, the store is recommended the videos that have the best performance so that the online store can then use them and increase its profits,” Mr. Kourtesis points out to APE-MPE.

He clarifies that the goals of “Goodvid.io” are not to approach online stores but to software companies that build software for online stores and therefore have access to a large “piece” of the international market.
Speaking about his experience so far from this business venture, he notes: “being a private employee is not a one-way street. I completely exclude the idea of the public sector. I would recommend that young people consider, before looking for a job, the possibility of creating their own business with other people they trust so that they can be their own bosses.”

This spirit will be what Messrs. Kourtesis and Bratanis will try to convey to the young people of Kozani and Florina, where they will be in the coming days in the context of events organized by the European Commission Delegation in Greece, the European Parliament Office in Greece and organizations from the above regions.

"Indeed, young people in a state that does not help them and in the midst of a crisis, by thinking creatively and outside the ordinary, can find an edge and be able to create," emphasizes, for his part, to APE-MPE, the head of the Communication Department of the European Commission Representation in Greece, Aris Peroulakis.

To this end, it underlines the need for the state itself to create entrepreneurship incubators, to provide advisory work on the possibilities of financing business projects from the NSRF or other European funds, to propose specific training actions required in specific sectors of work, and to generally proceed with structural changes for the benefit of youth entrepreneurship and the fight against unemployment.

"Unemployment is a plague on our country, which is bleeding from human resources and is constantly seeing more and more young people leaving the region. With events and information actions on the development initiatives of the European Union and the good practices already being developed in Greece, we could give the impetus for more similar initiatives," notes the president of the Coordinating Committee of the Active Youth Group of Florina (O.E.N.E.F), Costas Filippidis.
