Smartphone and tablet security software developer Bluebox Security announced that it has closed a second round of funding of $18 million, led by Tenaya Capital and investors SV Angel and Andreas Bechtolsheim (co-founder of Sun Microsystems), who also participated in the first round of funding.

Tenaya Capital CEO Brian Melton will join the company's board of directors.

The money will be used to upgrade sales and marketing.

Melton pointed out in a statement that existing mobile security solutions are outdated and do not meet current user requirements

“As companies provide employees with greater access to corporate information via mobile devices, they need a solution that meets both the needs of the business and the employee. The strong support across all Bluebox beta customers validates that the company has developed an innovative mobile security solution that is ideal for businesses,” said Brian.
