The Trump Mobile T1, a device that was initially launched with great expectations, has caused a backlash and doubts in the market. Despite the promises of a phone that would be proudly made in the United States and would offer a user experience that could be compared to the iPhone, the reality seems to be different. The T1 is essentially a redesigned HTC U24 Pro, a mid-range phone from Taiwan, which was released in mid-2024.

The phone's appearance, described by Bloomberg as "more mustard yellow than gold," falls short of initial expectations.
iFixit's teardown confirmed that the T1 is a near-perfect copy of the HTC U24 Pro, with the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 processor, 12GB of RAM, and 512GB of storage. The 6.78-inch OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and curved edges are features that, while impressive, fail to make up for the device's shortcomings. The camera, for example, is several generations behind its competitors, while the screen brightness is lower compared to other similarly priced devices from companies like Google, Samsung, and Nothing.
One of the biggest issues with the Trump Mobile T1 is its lack of security updates. The device remains stuck on a February 2026 security patch, with no clear schedule for future updates. This raises concerns about the phone's long-term security and support, which is crucial for users who want to keep their data safe.
The device comes pre-installed with Truth Social, the social networking platform associated with Donald Trump, as well as a telemedicine app called Doctegrity. Beyond these apps, the phone runs stock Android 15 with minimal customizations, while the Trump Mobile boot animation and “TRUMP” appearing in the status bar when connected to the network add a personal touch.

Trump Mobile operates as an MVNO through Liberty Mobile Wireless, which is based in Florida and uses T-Mobile’s network. The $47.45 is a nod to Trump’s two terms in office, but it’s not competitive with other offerings on the market, such as Visible’s $35 unlimited data, hotspot service, and smartwatch. Despite perks like roadside assistance and telemedicine, Trump Mobile lacks a mobile app for account management and limits customer support to live chat from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. Central Time.
The T1 appears to be in limited supply, with only a handful of units sent to media outlets for review. Trump Mobile claims the hardware is partially “assembled” in the U.S., but it doesn’t provide details on what that means. Despite Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr. attending the launch event, Trump Mobile has no direct connection to the Trump Organization, according to the fine print on its website.
Bloomberg's verdict is that the T1 isn't rubbish, but it's not recommended either. Devices like the Pixel 10a, the iPhone 17e , and a wide range of mid-range phones from Samsung and Motorola are better options at the same price or less. The more serious concern is long-term software support, as the phone is stuck on a version of Android two generations behind, with no commitment to security updates.

As Bloomberg put it, “If President Trump himself isn’t going to use the T1 phone every day, why should you?” The answer, for all but political memorabilia collectors, is that celebrity-branded phones have a perfect track record of failure. The Trump Mobile T1, despite its initial promise, appears to be yet another example of that trend.
