Spanish airline Air Europa announced on Friday that the personal data of its customers may have been compromised in a cyberattack that took place last October.
The investigation revealed that personal data such as names, ID or passport information, date of birth, phone numbers, email addresses and nationality details may have been leaked, Air Europa told its customers in an email reported by Reuters.

Air Europa immediately reported the situation to the authorities and its customers, so that necessary precautionary measures could be taken.
"Air Europa is implementing proactive measures in a continuous process of innovation in the field of security , treating the increasing incidents with seriousness," it said.
The Wall Street Journal reported the news, but also referred to the statement given by International Consolidated Airlines Group (IAG).
IAG, which owns 20% of Air Europa, told Reuters it would never send emails directly to Air Europa customers.
In October, Madrid-based Air Europa suffered a cyberattack on its online payment system. This attack exposed some personal information from its customers' credit cards.
It was reported that no other information was disclosed, without specifying the number of customers affected.

Last year, IAG agreed to pay 400 million euros to Spain's Globalia for the remaining 80% of Air Europa that it did not already own. However, the deal has not been completed as it is still under review.
