Remember Samsung's Ballie? That little ball-shaped robot with advanced artificial intelligence and a BB-8-esque style? If not, it was unveiled at CES 2020, but never made it commercially available. Samsung ,questioning its feasibility, redesigned it from the ground up. And finally, Ballie is back in the spotlight.
At CES 2024, Samsung unveiled a redesigned Ballie. The key word is “redesigned,” as the new version is larger, has wheels, and a built-in projector that projects images onto the floor, walls, or ceiling. According to the tech company, Ballie acts as a personal assistant in the home, roaming autonomously and performing various tasks. It’s an intelligent, mobile hub that manages home devices connected to the SmartThings platform, responds to voice commands, and offers customized services. In the official presentation video, it’s presented as the ideal companion for pets, capable of feeding and entertaining.

Ballie can also play music, show workout videos, answer phone calls, and make video calls. Samsung says the robot is constantly learning from the user's patterns and habits for smarter, more personalized services.

Samsung hasn't revealed when the Ballie will be released or how much it will cost, so we can only hope that the redesigned Ballie is destined for release and won't be abandoned like the 2020 model.
