Oxymoronic letter-warning from the EYP to ministers and state officials about their conversations and text messages.
The wiretapping and surveillance scandal is in full swing, the revelations are continuous, despite the government's attempt to put a stop to it, and yet a report in "Kathimerini" raises questions.
According to the newspaper, which cites EYP sources, the Service sent a letter to ministers and state officials raising the alarm about the security of their conversations.
The National Intelligence Service, that is, which is seriously exposed and held accountable by the revelations of surveillance of ministers, journalists, judges, state officials and businessmen, is now coming to send... warnings.
The report refers to an urgent signal from the Service stating that "your telephone conversations via the already known communication applications are not secure."
The EYP is reportedly drawing attention to ministers and state officials not to use these encrypted communications applications for sensitive matters and is calling on them to replace them with "another less popular application, which has its roots in Switzerland."
The publication, in fact, does not mention the name of the application, only that it is already used by members of the Swiss armed forces.
We assume that the EYP is referring to the application (based in Switzerland) although it did not clarify which application this is.
However, we do not understand why the Hellenic Security Agency, as the exclusive body controlling encryption in Greece, has not proceeded/proposed the creation of custom-made applications using existing technologies and its own encryption keys (under their absolute control), which would ensure the application from external interventions by third countries.
In any case, the announcement raises serious concerns.
