It seems like Sony is doing everything it can to extend the PlayStation 5 beyond your TV, now bringing the PlayStation Portal. It's a portable gaming devicethat looks more like a controller with a screen and lets you play games remotely from a powered-up console. It costs $200.
How does PlayStation Portal?
PlayStation Portal requires that you also own a classic PlayStation 5. Portal allows you to remotely access your PS5, interacting with it via the screen. To do this, you can be anywhere within range of Wi-Fi your and it's as if you were playing directly with the console. If your PS5 is turned off, Portal can even turn it on.
Playing PS5 games while someone else uses the TV is an attractive idea. However, you can already do this with almost any smartphone and a compatible controller.

Design: A DualSense with a touch screen
To create the PlayStation Portal, Sony appears to have cut a Dualsense gamepad in half and inserted an eight-inch touchscreen between the two grips . The grips and general layout are identical to those of the PS5 controller. It has the same white-on-black look, transparent face buttons and direction pad, and black analog sticks. The Options and Share buttons are in the same spot, but the PlayStation and mute microphone buttons are on the inner edges of the left and right halves, respectively.
controls , haptic feedback, and triggers with adaptive resistance are all present on PlayStation Portal. There's no clickable trackpad, but the touchscreen serves the same purpose.
The top of the Portal features two speaker holes, along with thin, flat buttons for power, sync, and volume up/down. There's a microphone hole on the bottom edge of the screen, while the back features a headphone jack and a USB-C port for charging.
Screen
Portal's display is an eight-inch 1080p LCD with a 60Hz refresh rate. The 1080p resolution looks more blurry than most modern handhelds .In reality, this is because Portal is used to navigate the PS5's menu system, which is designed for higher resolution but also much larger TV screens.
However, the resolution isn't that big of an issue. The bigger issue is the LCD screen itself. Nowadays, many modern gaming phones use screens , and there's a reason for that, as they typically have better contrast and a much wider color gamut.

PlayStation Portal Features
PlayStation Portal has a simple menu system that guides the user to connect to their home network and then to their PlayStation account. Then, it pairs with your PS5. Once that's done, only one option is presented in Portal: Stream from your PS5. It has no apps. There's no PSN client for game streaming. The only other option is to remotely activate your PS5.
Aside from Remote Play, the settings menu is the only other accessible area. There, you may need to adjust network settings or update the Portal's firmware. There, you can also enable Airplane mode.
Performance
Connecting PlayStation Portal to the network and PlayStation 5 is easy and the game is just as good, with no noticeable input lag. The video and audio are in sync with the action, although the image can be a little blurry at times, prioritizing latency reduction over graphical fidelity.
Even if you move a little away from your apartment, you can access the PS5 over the Internet, but you will definitely see a slight lag in the game. Of course, Sony does not advertise Portal as a portable gaming device for outside the home, even if it can work over the Internet. The size and lack of a carrying case make it difficult to transport it from one place to another.

Sony PlayStation Portal
Overall, PlayStation Portal has some limitations, especially in this day and age, where even smartphones for remote play on PlayStation. Now, you can play PS5 games remotely using almost any phone and a controller that costs much less than the new gaming device. However, if you're a PlayStation fan, you might want to give it a try!
A few words about PlayStation 5
Sony's PlayStation 5 console was released in 2020 and represents another major step forward in the company's technology. This console is upgraded with an octa-core AMD Zen 2 processor paired with RDNA2 graphics and 16GB of RAM.

Thanks to its features, the PS5 allows for extremely fast loading times, even in open-world titles. Sony has also focused on audio, with the so-called Tempest Engine that allows for more immersive sound effects when using the console with headphones. Another notable feature is hardware-based ray tracing, which allows for more realistic lighting and reflection effects, as well as native 4K gameplay.
The console comes with the DualSense controller. The biggest change here is the addition of shoulder triggers and improved haptic feedback.
Important games for the PS5 are: Returnal, Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, Spider-Man: Miles Morales and the remake of Demon’s Souls. Fortunately, the PS5 is compatible with the majority of PS4 games. However, there is no support for PS3 games.
