Google says that this storage issue affects "Pixel 6 and later models", which have received the Android 14 update and have been configured by many users, except for the main user. This includes "users, guests, restricted profiles and child users", but does not only refer to connecting more than one Google Account within the primary user or working profiles.

The company has already released an update on Google Play to "help prevent this issue from being triggered on additional devices". To install it, open the Settings > Security and Personal Data Protection > System and Update > Update Google Play. The latest version available is 1 October 2023.

For those who currently can't access the media store, Google is working on a update system that will fix the problem and restore access to media files without requiring a factory reset.

Google is also looking at ways that they might be able to recover some of the data for devices via the "Pixel starts" reboot process. However, what seems more effective is "provide you with more information as soon as it's available".

For all users, including those who reset their device to factory default settings, Google recommends that you avoid creating or signing in to a secondary user account on Device until the OTA update is available.
