One UI 6 beta: Samsung brings it to one of its most affordable phones

Samsung

The Galaxy S23 series was the first of Samsung's devices to get a taste of the One UI 6 beta. Based on the Korean giant's previous One UI beta programs, it is believed that the Galaxy S22 series and the new Flip/Fold devices would be in line to receive a beta firmware Android 14. But then, last week, Samsung made a surprise announcement by announcing the availability of the One UI 6 beta for the Galaxy A54. This disappointed many Galaxy S22 owners, who were eagerly awaiting a beta firmware. Adding salt to their wounds, Samsung launched the One UI 6 beta program for the Galaxy A34.

As SamMobile reports, the program is currently live in the UK. The ZWI1 beta firmware exceeds 2GB and is available for download to A34 owners participating in the beta program from the Samsung Members app. Like the One UI 6 beta of the Galaxy S23, beta testing of Android 14 of the A34 and A54 should be extended to more regions in the coming weeks, likely alongside the release of a new beta build.

There are several improvements and changes in One UI 6. The Quick Settings panel has been updated with new and more up-to-date tiles. Samsung has also updated the Camera app with updated illustrations that are easier to understand and look more modern. Other changes include a new system font, updated emoji, a revamped Weather app with fewer ads, an improved Share menu, new privacy options and additional customization options.

The Galaxy A34 is among Samsung's cheapest budget phones, so to see the beta version of One UI 6 released before the more premium Galaxy devices is surprising. Nevertheless, if you own the Galaxy A34 and are eager to get a taste of Samsung's Android 14 flavor, this is the perfect opportunity. Hop on the beta train to try out all the new features of One UI 6. Be sure to report any bugs you encounter so they can be fixed before the public release.

For comparison, Samsung added the Galaxy A52 to the One UI 5 beta program last year in late September. With Android 14, however, the company managed to move the timeline by a few weeks. In addition, more mid-range devices are getting a taste of an upcoming version of Android before its public release.

Android 14 for Pixels may be delayed, with Google apparently planning to release it alongside the Pixel 8 series and Pixel Watch 2 at the Made by Google event on October 4. This allows Samsung to narrow the gap between the public release of One UI 6 and the release of Android 14 in just a few weeks.
