With the 3rd beta of watchOS 9.2 for developers, Apple added Race Route and Track detection features to the Workout app.
The new watchOS 9.2 beta , released to developers on Tuesday, brings new features for exercisers. The new Race Route and Track Detection features are designed specifically for runners and cyclists.
Race Route lets you compete against yourself on a route you've already completed and marked as an outdoor run or bike route on your Apple Watch.

You can compete against your best or worst result on any outdoor runs you frequently complete, and the feature also offers the ability to use it to guide your pace while you exercise to keep your progress competitive and achieve new goals.
Reportedly coming later this year in watchOS 9.2, Race Route will be compatible with Apple Watch Series 4 and later models.
Another upcoming feature coming with watchOS 9.2 is Track Detection, which will be especially appreciated by runners when it launches. Apple is including a preview of Track Detection and how it will work in conjunction with the Workout app in future updates.

Track Detection automatically detects a running track and asks you which lane you are using so it can take more accurate measurements.

“Workout detects when you arrive at a route and uses Apple Maps and GPS to provide the most accurate running pace, distance, and route map,” Apple.
watchOS 9.2 also introduces support for a new Home app architecture that was also added in iOS 16.2, iPadOS 16.2, and macOS Ventura.
