As heat waves become more and more common, our various gadgets and electronic devices may face some issues since they are not used to operating in these temperatures. The same goes for iPhones which are affected by high temperatures.

Apple makes it very clear that the iPhone should only be used “where the ambient temperature is between 0º and 35ºC (32º to 95ºF) and that using it outside this range may cause the device to change its behavior to regulate its temperature.”

These changes relate to the following:
- Charging, including wireless charging, slows down or stops completely
- The screen goes black.
- Signal strength may decrease
- The camera flash is temporarily disabled
- Performance is degraded
Worse yet, life battery. This means that using your iPhone or iPad in scorching temperatures can cause permanent damage to the device.

When the temperature gets too high, your iPhone may display a warning. In this case, you may still be able to make emergency calls, but it's best to turn off your iPhone and place it in a cooler place to avoid any damage.

Knowing the problems that can be caused, Apple offers some tips for keeping your iPhone as cool as possible in high temperatures:
- Don't leave your iPhone or iPad in the car
- Make sure it is not exposed to direct sunlight for a long time
- Try not to use demanding features like GPS tracking or car navigation, play games, or use other demanding applications
Of course, the above tips don't just apply to the iPhone, but to all smartphones.

Anything containing a rechargeable battery can be damaged — even permanently damaged — by exposure to high temperatures: iPhones, iPads, Android, even flashlights and other gadgets are at risk.
