Popular automaker Mercedes-Benz appears to be keeping its promise to go fully electric by 2030, following the announcement of the AMG EQE model , a high-performance version of its electric E-class sedan.

The AMG EQE is the second electric car that uses a battery, from the internal AMG subsidiary, after the AMG EQS sedan announced last September. Both cars will be built on Mercedes' EVA2 platform, which underpins the EQS, the smaller EQE and many sibling SUV models. EVA2 is designed for mid‑size and large vehicles, while the automaker's MMA, which as all signs point to it will be operational in 2025, will be for electric compact cars such as the EQA and EQB.
The new Mercedes-AMG EQE will be very quick, with a 0–60 mph acceleration time of 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 149 mph with the Dynamic Plus package (3.4 seconds). The vehicle’s dual electric motors produce 677 horsepower and 738 ft-lbs of torque when equipped with the AMG Dynamic Plus package and boost function. Without the Dynamic Plus package, the AMG EQE will still produce a respectable 617 horsepower.

The 328-volt battery has a usable energy content of 90.6 kWh and consists of 10 modules with a total of 360 pouch cells. Estimated range is between 444-518 km, although Mercedes says that specific measurements for the US will be released shortly before the car's debut.
As with the AMG EQS, Mercedes says the EQE's battery management system is specifically tailored for AMG. In the Sport and Sport Plus, the focus is on performance, while the Comfort focuses on range.
Mercedes says that the AMG EQE will start being sold in the US in early 2023. The company has not disclosed further information regarding its price, but we can assume it will cost less than the AMG EQS sedan, which sells for over $100,000.

And while the AMG EQS looks like a worthy competitor to Model S Plaid, the AMG EQE is likely an attempt to offer a somewhat more affordable vehicle for those who want to enjoy Mercedes-Benz's high-performance features. And if it delivers on its promises, the AMG EQE could be a better vehicle than some of Mercedes-Benz's other early efforts, like the EQC, which faced a number of problems due to being built on an internal combustion engine platform.
