Apple announced today that it has acquired classical music streaming service Primephonic and will offer it on Apple Music.

Primephonic offers an “excellent listening experience” with search and browsing features optimized for classical sound, as well as hand-picked recommendations and “details about repertoire and recordings.”.
“We deeply love and respect classical music, and Primephonic has become a favorite for classical music lovers,” said Oliver Schusser, Apple’s vice president of Apple Music and Beats. “Together, we’re bringing new, great classical features to Apple Music and, in the near future, we’ll offer an exclusive classical music experience that’s truly the best in the world.”

Apple says that with the purchase of Primephonic, Apple Music subscribers will be able to enjoy an enhanced classical music experience. This will start with Primephonic playlists and audio content, and in the coming months, Apple will offer an exclusive Primephonic experience with improved browsing and searching capabilities by composer and repertoire, better classical music metadata, and many more benefits.
Primephonic will go offline on September 7th and will no longer be available to new subscribers. Next year, Apple says it will launch a dedicated classical music app that combines Primephonic's classic user interface with additional features.

Current Primephonic subscribers will receive six months of free access to the Apple Music app, with access to hundreds of thousands of classic albums that support Lossless and Spatial Audio.
