COSMOTE implemented smart city solutions in the Municipalities of Monemvasia and Chania , utilizing Narrow-Band Internet of Things (NB-IoT) technology . With Smart Water Management in Monemvasia and Smart Parking in Chania, citizens' daily lives are made easier, while municipalities save valuable resources and reduce costs. The implementation was based on NB-IoT technology , as it requires a small amount of data to interconnect devices via a mobile network, drastically reducing energy consumption and costs.

In Monemvasia, smart meters were installed in the Municipality's water supply network for remote monitoring and management of water supply and consumption, in real time and with accuracy, through the COSMOTE NB-IoT network. With Smart Water Management, which was based on the "ARTEMIS-water" solution, water resources are saved, water pressure is stabilized, its quality is controlled, any leaks are detected, while energy consumption and municipal costs are significantly reduced. This is the first water metering project in Greece to be implemented using the NB-IoT network.
A Smart Parking solution for people with disabilities was implemented in Chania , which utilizes the COSMOTE NB-IoT network . As part of the project, special sensors were installed in existing parking spaces of the Municipality for people with disabilities, both residents and visitors. Drivers have the opportunity to be informed immediately about the location of free parking spaces and how to get there, through a special mobile application , while with special portable cards at their disposal, they automatically certify that they are entitled to a space. This project, already used by more than 300 eligible drivers, encourages the equal participation of everyone in the life of the city, residents, visitors and tourists, while at the same time facilitating the work of the traffic police.
The Mayor of Chania, Mr. Panagiotis Simandirakis, noted: "It is our responsibility to ensure equal accessibility to all citizens, further facilitating our fellow citizens who face additional difficulties due to disability. With this specific collaboration with COSMOTE, we have achieved something extremely important and innovative, in terms of parking for people with disabilities and their families in their daily traffic in the city. Our goal is for this specific program to be expanded, with even more spaces inside and outside the urban fabric, for which citizens can be informed in real time, and for the control services to immediately detect any violations."
In turn, the Mayor of Monemvasia, Mr. Iraklis Tricheilis, pointed out: "The increasing needs of the urban population for water, the depletion - degradation of existing water resources, as well as the adverse effects of climate change, make the sustainable and effective management of the available quantities of water provided for urban use of primary importance. With the installation of smart meters in the water supply network of the Municipality of Monemvasia by COSMOTE, we have succeeded in improving the efficiency and reliability of the water supply network by remotely monitoring - managing water supply and consumption, in real time and with accuracy."
