Security firm Trend Micro recently conducted new research revealing that over two-fifths (41%) of IT leaders believe AI will replace their role by 2030.
Its forecast report, Turning the Tide, predicts that remote and cloud-based systems will be relentlessly targeted in 2021. The research was gathered from interviews conducted with 500 IT managers, CIOs and CTOs.
Only 9% of respondents were convinced that AI would not replace their jobs within the next decade. In fact, nearly a third (32%) said they believed the technology would automate cybersecurity interventionreduced to a minimum.
Nearly one in five (19%) believe attackers will use AI to enhance their arsenal by 2025.
About a quarter (24%) of IT leaders surveyed claimed that by 2030, data access will be linked to biometric or DNA, making unauthorized access impossible.
In the short term, respondents also predicted that the following outcomes would have occurred by 2025. They also predict that most organizations will have significantly reduced real estate investments as remote working becomes the norm (22%).
5G will have completely transformed network and security infrastructures (21%) and security will be self-managed and automated using AI (15%) .
Bharat Mistry, CTO at Trend Micro, said, “We need to be realistic about the future. While AI is a useful tool to help us defend our networks against threats, its value can only be realized in conjunction with human expertise.”
Cybercriminals will continue to go where the money is – seeking the greatest financial returns on attacks . Organizations and security teams must remain agile and vigilant to be able to confront criminals.
Technology leaders believe that within a decade automation will eliminate many roles, but this should not worry us as IT will adapt and companies will evolve to use automation to ease the challenges caused by skills shortages.
