Microsoft has just released the new Windows 10 preview build 11099, which is the second Redstone build and the first of the new year.
The company doesn't appear to have made any major changes to this build, and Gabriel Aul, head of the Windows Insider program, said the same will be true for future releases as developers improve performance and fix as many bugs as possible.
"As with the previous release, this build does not include any major notable changes or new features. Our focus was on structural improvements to OneCore, which is the common core of Windows across devices," Aul explained in a post.
“The code refactoring and other technical changes we’ve made to optimize OneCore are getting to the point where we’re ready to start testing new features and improvements. It’ll take a few more builds before we see any truly noticeable changes.”
Aul also reiterated that Microsoft will soon start releasing new builds more quickly to the Windows Insider program, explaining that those already enrolled in the Fast Ring will notice builds being released more frequently.
This obviously means that users who don't want to deal with bugs that will appear in the new test builds will have to switch to the Slow Ring.
It should be noted that Redstone is the codename for the next major version of Windows 10 that will be released in the summer of 2016 and will include significant new features.
The new version is usually released online from unofficial sources, a few hours after it is released by Microsoft.
