Barnaby Jack , a famous hacker who became famous for finding vulnerabilities in ATM systems and medical devices, died yesterday in San Francisco.
The San Francisco medical examiner's office said Jack died Thursday, but did not provide details about how he died.
Jack was scheduled to appear at the Black Hat hacking conference in Las Vegas next week to demonstrate techniques for remotely attacking technical hearts. He reportedly said he could kill a person from 10 meters away.
He was a genius at finding errors in the tiny computers embedded in medical or banking equipment.
He became one of the most famous hackers on the planet when in 2010 he managed to "break" an ATM and leak accounts.
The hacking community is still in shock after the unexpected news of his death spread via Twitter early Friday.
