Microsoft has just revealed through its Security Response Center that it has been the victim of a cyberattack that exploited a Java security flaw. An identical attack to those that have hit Apple and Facebook. Microsoft's Matt Thomlinson revealed that a "small number" of computers were infected with malware, including some Macs that the company uses to develop Mac applications. However, "there is no indication that any customer data has been stolen.".
Microsoft chose not to make a statement during the information gathering process on this particular attack. Apparently this type of attack “does not come as a surprise to Microsoft”. The company is constantly re-evaluating the security of its systems to deal with an ever-changing landscape of virtual threats, and to prevent further attacks on their network. Let’s not forget that the vast majority of malicious applications created by hackers target the Windows platform. So, vigilance on the part of the company is considered necessary.
