Kariem McFarlin, a 35-year-old former San Jose State University football player, was sentenced to seven years in prison this week for a string of burglaries at a number of Bay Area homes, including the home of Steve Jobs.
McFarlin was confirmed as the burglar of several homes in the Bay Area. The thief allegedly took $60,000 worth of Tiffany & Co. jewelry, Steve Jobs' driver's license (possibly to sell on eBay), and some educational tools.
The guy had no idea that when he plugged the Apple device he took from Jobs's house into iTunes, investigators would be able to determine his IP address. Inside Bay Area reports that, "Jobs' technology contributed to and led to McFarlin's arrest."
After gathering additional evidence, police arrested him at his Alameda apartment on August 2.
Prosecutors this week ruled that McFarlin is responsible for seven other burglaries in Alameda, Marin and San Francisco.
