Free up storage space on your iPhone with this easy trick

trick

If you own an iPhone, clearing up storage space is a constant concern for you. It can be a struggle to constantly delete apps and images to try to free up space, whether it's because you're about to install the latest software or to download new apps, especially when they don't come with expandable storage and have a limited amount of iCloud storage, and even, of course, come in at just 16GB.

In this article, we give quick and easy tips you can use to clear temporary files (cache) from your phone, leaving you with more storage space. So let's take a look at the trick tested on an iPhone 6 Plus.

This trick works best if you have less than 1GB of storage left. The iPhone 6 Plus only had 479MB of internal storage. Go to Settings > General > Storage & iCloud Usage to check how much you have left.

Open the iTunes Store, select Movies, and try renting a long movie. You can use any movie that is larger than your available storage space. You might consider Gone with the Wind or the extended cut of The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.

Unfortunately, iTunes doesn't seem to carry the movie Logistics, the longest film ever made (857 hours).

When you click on the HD Movie rental, you will see a notification warning you that the file is too large to download. Don’t worry, you won’t be charged anything for this. Open Settings > General > Storage & iCloud again to find out how much space you have. The trick gives you 68MB of free space. It successfully cleans up temporary files that are created while using apps, such as scrolling through YouTube videos or tweeting on Twitter. This method cleans them up automatically, as there is no other direct way to delete them from your iPhone.

The best thing about this trick is that it can be repeated multiple times. After repeating the process seven times, it left a total of 3.5GB of available space – 3GB more than it started with!

You may need to perform this trick multiple times depending on the types of apps and files you have on your iPhone. Just keep doing this until it stops clearing any more space. The storage space will remain available even if you restart your phone. It’s not exactly clear what files are being removed from your phone, but it’s probably the infamous “other” files that may be taking up space on your phone.
