PRESS RELEASE – The Directorate for the Prosecution of Electronic Crime (DIE) is conducting targeted actions and investigations, in collaboration with foreign authorities, to combat child pornography on the internet.
A case file of a regular procedure was opened against a 32-year-old local for child pornography
It was uncovered by the Cybercrime Directorate (ΔΗΕ), within the framework of targeted actions and investigations, in cooperation with foreign authorities, to combat child pornography on the internet, a child pornography case, and a procedural file was opened in which, so far, a 32-year-old local from the Thessaloniki area is involved.
Specifically, the investigation of the case began after an online check on a peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing network, for possession and distribution of child pornography, during which the electronic traces of the individuals who possessed and shared a specific child pornography file were recorded. The check resulted in seven (7) electronic traces belonging to users within the Greek Territory.
The Cybercrime Prosecution Directorate (DIE) conducted a thorough digital investigation and analysis of the data and elements of the case, while an Order and Resolution were issued by the competent Prosecution Authority to lift the confidentiality of communications.
Through the methodical police and digital investigation of the Cybercrime Directorate (ΔΗΕ) and the analysis of electronic traces, the administrators of the electronic traces under investigation were identified.
A team of police officers carried out a surprise search yesterday (17-06-2015) morning, in the presence of a Judicial Officer, at the home of one of the perpetrators, a 32-year-old Greek national, in the city of Thessaloniki. From the on-site digital search of the 32-year-old's digital media, it was determined that he was in possession of files containing child pornography, an act for which he was arrested while on the verge of a traffic stop.
As part of the investigation, a laptop computer was found and seized, which will be sent to the Criminal Investigations Sub-Directorate of Northern Greece for laboratory tests.
The regular procedure file formed for the case file will be submitted appropriately.
