YouTube turned 10 on February 14, 2015 ! Of the other popular Social Media platforms, Facebook and LinkedIn have also celebrated 10 years of operation .
YouTube was founded by three former PayPal employees, Steve Chen, Chad Hurley, and Jawed Karim, who created a video site for online dating, which explains the anniversary on Valentine's Day. The idea didn't work, and YouTube was later used for videos on auction sites, but users also uploaded videos on any other topic, which led to the current form of the popular social networking site.
A year and a half after YouTube was created, Google acquired it for the then-huge sum of $1.65 billion, when the site had just 38 million visitors.
Today, YouTube has impressive statistics, with over 1 billion userssubscribed to it and over 300 hours of video uploaded every minute . And it remains the favorite site for many of us, wasting many hours watching videos from our favorite channels.
