Kim Dotcom appears to have kept his promise to launch a Skype competitor: MegaChat, a new end-to-end encrypted audio and video chat program that can run from your browser.
The service launched today and is still in beta. It is available for free to all registered users who can try it out from Dotcom's newly acquired domain: Mega.nz. Dotcom said on Twitter that MegaChat users have made more than half a million encrypted video calls since its launch.
Audio and video calls are already working, and as Dotcom stated, text chats and video conferencing will be coming soon.
To try MegaChat, you'll need to sign up for Mega. Then, you can click the chat icon on the left toolbar to start an audio or video call with any of your contacts who use the same service.
