The Rockstar Consortiumis a consortium of Apple, Microsoft, BlackBerry, Ericsson and Sony aimed at stopping the war patent, triggered by the acquisition of Nortel.
Canadian Nortel, which went bankrupt in 2009, held several thousand patents around mobile phone networks, semiconductors, voice recognition and other fields.
Rockstar (no relation to Rockstar Games , the well-known company behind the GTA and Max Payne game series ), acquired Nortel's patents for $4.5 billion and then the war against Google and Android began .
However, Google and Apple realized that it was useless to waste money and time in courtrooms and were led to an agreement, as revealed by a document that was leaked a few days ago.
Beyond that, due to the complexity of the transaction and following a proposal from Rockstar, the court has given both sides 45 days to reach a final agreement, meaning that the final signatures will be made no later than December 29th.
