Airplane passengers will be able to use their smartphones and tablets throughout their flight, according to an announcement by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).
This development is likely to lead airlines to install wireless services on their aircraft.
According to the rules in force until today, passengers had to have their devices in 'airplane' mode so as not to emit radio waves that could affect the aircraft.
The European Commission has approved the use of 3G and 4G connections during the flight, which allows users to access the internet and their email while the aircraft is above 3,000 meters.
