Ten Greek teams at the Robotics "World Cup"

Greece will participate with more than 10 school teams in the Robotics "World Cup", which will be held this year from November 21 to 23, in Sochi, Russia, where this year's Olympiad is being organized by the Russian Ministry of Education.

As part of the established annual Olympiad by the global organization World Robot Olympiad (WROtm), the corresponding national organization Wrohellas organized, under the auspices of the Ministry of Education, the 6th Panhellenic Educational Robotics Competition, on the theme "Space and Robots", which took place on Saturday, June 28, at the Peristeri indoor basketball court, with the assistance of the municipality of Peristeri and the Avgouleas - Linardatos educational institutions.

The winners by category of this year's competition are:

Elementary (Rocket):

1) Pico-Apico (Informatics & New Technologies Center of Ptolemaida)

2) Robokids (Robotics Team of Larissa)

The mission of the robot that the elementary school competitors were asked to assemble and program is to assemble the three parts of the rocket in the assembly area, place the elements vertically above the ramp in the launch area, and deposit all the Lego people in the safe area. The robot must end up in the safe area after completing the project.

High school – rules (Sputnik):

2) Space Racer 57 (6th High School of Kalamata)

The robot's mission was to collect all the space debris (red bricks) and damaged satellites (red balls) and place them on the orbiting satellite. The functional satellites (blue balls) must remain in place. The robot must return to base (Earth) after completing the task.

High School – rules (Space Station):

1) 7th Evening High School of Halandri

2) Panel Engineers (2nd EPAL of Rhodes)

The robot starts from the base area. It then has to go into space, passing through an elevated obstacle on the track, check for defective photovoltaic panels (in black) and replace them with functional panels that are available in the space station's warehouse. The robot also has to find and activate the inactive photovoltaic panels. After completing its task, it has to return to the base area.

In the "OPEN" category, children at each grade level were invited to provide answers with their projects to questions such as: "What will help humanity conquer space in the future? When will we be able to live on other planets in our solar system? How will we reach the stars?"

The president of WROHellas, Yiannis Somalakidis, congratulated all the competing students for their participation as well as "the teachers who 'embrace' and support educational robotics as another useful tool in their own hands and that of their students.".

As he noted, "our country will be represented this year with 12 teams, instead of 4 as in the past, at the Olympiad in Russia, thus increasing the chances of Greek schools distinguishing themselves." He also wished "good luck to the teams that will represent Greece at this year's Olympiad, in their own World Cup of creativity, imagination and noble competition with all countries.".
