Kaspersky security researchers have identified a malicious phishing campaign targeting European users. The campaign has been circulating online since January 2014, exploiting the Apple.
The fake emails sent to potential victims originate from informs@apple.com and are titled “Apple rewards its long-term customers.”.
Scammers are trying to trick users into buying a €150 gift card for purchases at Apple's European store. The special card is being offered for just €9. In reality, the criminals are trying to convince victims to hand over their personal and financial information.
To obtain the supposed card, users are asked to download and fill out an attached form. However, the file attached to the messages is actually a phishing page that directs users to enter their name, address, bank account number, and credit card information.
The submitted information is transmitted to a server controlled by cybercriminals, and is then used for illegal activities.
