According to a survey conducted by SplashData, the password “123456” was named the worst password of 2013! This is not particularly surprising, considering that most users affected by the Adobe data breach last October were using this particular password!
the top ten of the list of the twenty-five worst passwords – which is based on the thousands of accounts that are compromised each year – are “password,” “1234567,” “qwerty,” “abc123,” “123456789,” “111111,” “1234567,” “iloveyou,” and “adobe123.”
The survey results were clearly influenced by the attack on Adobe, as the word “photoshop” was established in the top 15.
Despite the fact that many websites now encourage users to adopt strong passwords, some of the passwords that managed to make it onto the list were quite short and simple, like “1234” or “12345.”
