Steam service down after hacker attacks

Valve's digital distribution service, Steam, was temporarily down after a series of DDoS attacks apparently perpetrated by a new group of hackers.

A multitude of DDoS attacks have been recorded in recent days, many coming from the DERP hacker group, which has targeted online games such as League of Legends or World of Tanks, as well as online services such as Battle.net or Origin.

Now, a new group going by the Twitter handle chFtheCat has apparently claimed responsibility for a new series of DDoS attacks, this time targeting Valve's Steam service.

Currently, Steam is down for many users, but those who were already logged in can use the internal messaging system.
