Poland will spend more than 3 billion zlotys ($760 million) to strengthen cybersecurity after the fake news attack, the Minister of Digitalization announced on Monday.
This decision comes after a possible Russian cyberattack, as authorities reported to the state news agency PAP.

With European Parliament elections due to be held in Poland on Sunday, authorities are on alert for possible attempts by Moscow to interfere in the vote. These fears intensified on Friday after a false article about a military mobilization appeared in the PAP.
Warsaw has repeatedly accused Moscow of attempting to destabilize Poland over its role in providing military aid to neighboring Ukraine, allegations that Russia has rejected.
“We plan to invest over 3 billion zlotys for a ‘Cyber Shield,’” Krzysztof Gawkowski at a press conference. “Today, Poland is at the forefront of the cyber against Russia, facing the most attacks.” Gawkowski said that on Sunday and Monday, Poland managed to block several cyber attacks on vital infrastructure.
"The Russian Federation has one goal – to destabilize the situation and ensure that the forces supporting the dissolution of the EU will benefit," he said.
On Friday, the Russian embassy in Warsaw said it had no knowledge of the attack on the PAP. It also rejected accusations that Russia was trying to destabilize Poland.

Poland has also accused Russia of incidents of sabotage and arson on its territory, claiming that Russian intelligence services are actively trying to collect information about arms deliveries to Ukraine following Russia's extensive invasion in February 2022.
