Will the new iPad Pro really have the M4 Chip?

While it has been expected for about a year to use the M3 chip in Apple's upcoming iPad Pro models, recent reports suddenly suggest that the new devices will instead feature the yet-unannounced M4 chip.

Last year, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman said he now believes there is a "significant possibility"upcoming iPad Pro models will be equipped with Apple's next-generation M4 chip, instead of the M3 chip introduced in the MacBook Pro and iMac six months ago. He said a major new feature of the M4 chip will be an upgraded neural engine that enhances performance for tasks Artificial Intelligence (AI), and believes Apple will promote the new iPad Pro as an AI-powered device.

Introducing the M4 chip in an iPad and only six months after the previous generation of chips would be indelible moves. However, this isn't the first time rumors of the M4 chip in the new iPad Pro models have been leaked. In March, technical details for 16 new Apple devices were announced by a source with a proven track record of sharing accurate information about Apple's plans.

The technical information contained four identifiers for an undisclosed chip associated with the screen sizes of the upcoming iPad Pro 11″ and 13″ inch. This ID sequence suggests that the iPad Pro will contain the M4 chip, instead of the M3. With Gurman now supporting this possibility and the potential of a focus on AI, it seems like this is an increasingly likely reality.

Apple is expected to announce the new iPad Pro models at its event "Let Loose" on 7 May.
