Apple lays off 600 employees, mostly from the Apple Car project

After the cancellation of Apple's ambitious Apple Car project and the microLED displays for the Apple Watch, the company lays off more than 600 employees.

Apple lays off employees

A recent report reveals a significant reduction in the workforce at Apple, focusing primarily on employees involved in the company's Project Titan and its screen initiatives smartwatch. At least 87 people were working in a secret Apple facility dedicated to promoting next-generation display technology.

In addition, Apple is laying off another 371 employees from its main automotive center in Santa Clara, Calif. California. Several more were affected in various satellite offices.

The company's decision to reduce its staff affected employees located in various support offices, causing a wave of layoffs not limited to just one site. Both projects were halted due to a combination of managerial indecision, cost concerns and technical challenges.

The layoffs are part of a larger restructuring effort within Apple, resulting in the removal of over 600 employees. These employees were essential to the development of Apple's car and smartwatch display projects, two of the company's high-profile initiatives that have since been discontinued.

As Apple shifts its focus and resources and lays off many of its employees, some of those affected have the opportunity to move to other departments within the company. Notably, several individuals from the Apple Car project team have taken on roles that contribute to Apple's growing interests in artificial intelligence and the personal robotics, such as cited from from the Bloomberg.
