Gmail blocks Outlook email as spam

Microsoft has confirmed that some users of Outlook are experiencing problems with email that are blocked and marked as spam when sent to Gmail accounts.

Gmail Outlook spam

This known issue only affects users with an Outlook.com domain, according to a support document published by the company on Tuesday.

Affected Outlook users are notified via recurring emails from Gmail servers that their messages have been considered spam and have been blocked from being delivered to the recipient's inbox.

The Google support website reports that it is very likely that only a subset of these messages are excluded because they have "a high probability of being junk mail“.

Temporary repair available

Until the Outlook Team addresses this issue, Microsoft advises affected users to add an Outlook.com alias to their accounts and send email to Gmail contacts using this alias.

Outlook aliases are additional email addresses that are associated with your Outlook.com account and use the same Inbox, contact list and account settings with your main email address. This can help when Outlook emails are blocked as spam by Gmail. Users can log into their Outlook.com accounts with any alias because they all use the same credentials.

To add a new nickname, click on "Add alias" and log in to your account at Microsoft if required. In the section "Add alias", create a new email address in Outlook.com and set it as an alias or add an existing email address as an alias, and then click "Add alias.”

After creating the new alias in Outlook.com, follow these instructions to send email from a different email address.

Google guidelines for fighting spam

Although Microsoft did not specify the exact reason why Outlook emails are tagged and excluded as spam messages, the company suggests that it should consider the new guidelines for bulk senders in order to improve the delivery of Outlook emails to Gmail accounts.

Η Google now blocks emails sent by bulk senders who do not follow stricter spam thresholds and do not authenticate their messages as required by new guidelines designed to strengthen protection against spam and attacks phishing.

In June, Google will start implementing these new requirements to prevent spam, phishing attempts and malware to reach the inboxes of its users.

How can one avoid receiving spam email?

An effective way to avoid receiving spam email, as in the case of Gmail and Outlook, is to use spam filters in account Your. Many email services offer this feature, which allows you to choose what kind of messages you want to receive and which ones to reject. It is also important to be careful when giving out your email address. Avoid sharing it with sites you don't trust or that don't have clear privacy policies. Another strategy is to use different email addresses for different purposes. For example, you might have one email for personal use, one for business use, and one for signing up for websites or services. Finally, it is very useful to recognize the signs of junk emails. These can include vague titles, misspellings, anonymous senders or requests for personal information.
