Nvidia has announced a partnership with Hippocratic AI, a healthcare company that offers generative AI nurses . These nurses work for as little as $9 an hour, unlike a real nurse who charges much more. Hippocratic offers the low-cost assistants AI , which provide medical advice to patients over video calls, in real time .
Kimberly Powell, vice president of NVIDIA's Healthcare division, said that digital assistants powered by generative AI could usher in an era of abundance in healthcare "but only if the technology responds to patients as a human would."

Nvidia is working with Hippocratic to power AI nurses’ responses in real time over video calls. In a video released by Nvidia, a human-looking generative AI nurse instructs a patient on how to take penicillin. She then tells the patient that she will report all of this information to her real doctor.
Generative AI nurses are responsible for various medical specialties and can offer advice on many medical issues.
Hippocratic AI highlights the savings that can be made by using a digital nurse, as the cost of operating a digital nurse is only $9 per hour, as opposed to a real nurse. Hippocratic claims that its AI nurses outperform human nurses in terms of patient outreach and training.

The introduction of generative AI nurses comes at a particularly challenging time for the nursing industry in the U.S. Over 32,000 nurses went on strike in 2023, accounting for a quarter of all major strikes in the United States.
The partnership with Hippocratic was one of many announcements made by Nvidia during the GTC Conference.
Hippocratic says its generative AI nurses have been tested by thousands of human nurses and hundreds of doctors. The technology is being tested by more than 40 healthcare providers across the country.

However, it is worth noting that these digital nurses do not make diagnoses. They can be used for some advice and assistance, when needed, after the patient has visited a doctor.
Generative AI nurses: Challenges
