Nokia Wednesday unveiled an AI (artificial intelligence) that generates messages for workers in industries.
These include notifications for defective machines based on data and suggestions for improving factory production.

The “MX Workmate” tool will expand Nokia’s existing communications technology, which is used by industrial customers. The company leverages large AI language models (LLMs) to generate text that resembles human writing, the company said in a statement.
This could include early warnings of potential machine failures along with recommendations for repairs, improvements in quality and production rates, and handling accidents in factories, Stephane Daeuble, head of marketing for Enterprise Solutions at Nokia, told Reuters. The Finland-based toolmaker already provides technology that enables internal communications or helps industrial companies connect to data from machine sensors, among other uses.
“Now, the idea is that we have an assistant that is available to help the worker understand all of this data,” Daeuble said, adding that Nokia is making this tool available as manufacturers face challenges with a shortage of skilled personnel.
Nokia's AI tool complies with operational technology (OT) regulations. However, companies may need to take time to trust this "future" technology. It must undergo careful testing and adaptation in order to work effectively across industries, Daeuble said.

While some aspects are still under research, including addressing illusion using artificial intelligence, the tool should be accurate, clear and correct. It should also be traceable and limited, he pointed out, adding that there will be initial security, such as human verification of the AI's guidelines.
Nokia will present the first versions of the tool at the Mobile World Congress to be held in Barcelona, at the end of February.
