Imagine buying a new $3,500 Apple Vision Pro headset, only to discover you've forgotten the password. This all-too-common scenario — who hasn't forgotten a password at some point in their life? — has become a reality for some Vision Pro users in recent days. On Apple’s official forums, several Vision Pro owners reported being locked out of their new headphones after entering the wrong passcode — not their Apple ID, but the passcode used to unlock the device. When they contacted Apple Support, the owners reported that they were told by Apple Support that the only way out was to take the product back to the store and have it reset either then or by sending it in later. The passcode issue was first reported by Bloomberg.
Once at the Apple store, device owners reported that employees fixed the problem by attaching a Developer Strap — a $300 add-on accessory that provides a USB-C between the Vision Pro and a Mac — to the headset and proceeded to erase and reset it. The Vision Pro is currently the only Apple product that cannot be reset by the user at home.

The reason the Developer Strap is required is already problematic, as the accessory is only available to people who are part of the Apple Developer Program and not to ordinary members.
New Vision Pro users were understandably annoyed that after paying so much money for Apple's headphones, they had to return them to the store just a few days after purchasing them. The Vision Pro officially launched in the United States last Friday.
It also seems that Apple staff were not prepared to deal with the problem.
