Anonymous is a movement of activists and hacktivists that is primarily known for its various cyberattacks against numerous governments, government institutions, and government agencies and companies.

SecNews conducted a relevant investigation since yesterday when these rumors circulated and did not identify any findings that prove that site was attacked.

Some tweets are currently unavailable, possibly deleted! The relevant posts did not specify the type of attack, i.e. whether it was a DDoS attack, which is a common way hackers use to bring down a site. A distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack is a malicious attempt to disrupt the normal traffic of a targeted server, service, or network by overwhelming the target or its surrounding infrastructure with a flood of Internet traffic.

Of course, this isn't the first time a hacking group has claimed to be false. Hackers may claim fake news for a variety of reasons. One of the most common reasons is to spread misinformation to a large audience.

Fake news is often used by hackers to damage the reputation of companies/individuals.
