Google Meet is introducing an innovative feature that allows you to pause video feeds for individual tiles during conversations to focus on key speakers and presenters.

To mute individual streams, you can tap the three-dot menu next to the person's name in the sidebar on the web and click "Don't watch." On mobile, there's a new "Audio only" feature, which mutes all streams except the presenter's stream. Hopefully, Google will release this feature on desktop.
The “Audio only” mode is definitely useful for saving data if you’re on the go.

Google Meet promises not to disturb/notify your interlocutors when you turn off video feeds and assures that nothing will disrupt the flow of your meeting.
The company has already started rolling out the feature and it will be accessible to everyone in a few weeks. As an added bonus, admin control of individual usage is not possible – meaning users will always have access to this beneficial technology.

Earlier this year, Google introduced support for emoji reactions to Meet calls. In February, the company brought 360-degree virtual backgrounds to Meet on mobile.
