The Russian government recently unveiled the groundbreaking Oculus system that will scan the internet for any banned content, allowing it to take swift action against violators.

The program, Oculus, is designed to detect and suppress any expression of dissent or support for the LGBT community within posts. According to government officials involved in its development, it is now operational.
According to the Interfax news agency, this software is able to detect illegal content in both text and images, scanning more than 200,000 images daily in just three seconds each! This remarkable speed makes it an invaluable tool for internet security.

The internet has become a battleground in Russia and other countries, as authorities try to control the spread of banned content as well as protests. In recent months, there have been numerous internet blackouts and censorship that have restricted people from reaching certain websites – or disconnected them from the web altogether.
Since Russia sent its army into Ukraine in February, Moscow has cracked down on political dissent and independent media that had endured previous crackdowns in the country.
According to the Main Radio Frequency Center (MRFC), which is overseen by Roskomnadzor, Oculus has the ability to detect and remove illegal material, such as extremist content or calls for mass gatherings that are considered illegal, drug propaganda, LGBT-related posts, and more.
Russia has accused the West of spreading what it considers false information about the “special military operation” in Ukraine, accusing it of trying to discredit the Russian armed forces.

Last year, Moscow passed legislation punishing individuals for distributing false information and taking strict measures against social media sites and news agencies that publish content contrary to its official stance on the conflict.
All television channels in Russia are operated by the government and faithfully follow its official narrative.
