Several users on Reddit and Twitter are claiming that the glass on the rear camera lens of the Google Pixel 7 is randomly breaking, without any prior drop or damage.

Several Pixel 7 users have taken to social media to share their experiences of their device unexpectedly breaking its rear camera lens. According to one user, “It was in my jacket pocket by itself and when I picked it up, I felt the broken glass/plastic. Google won’t fix it.”
Users are attributing the issue to “defective hardware” in the phone, and it only seems to affect the standard Pixel 7 and not the Pro version.
“I had the same problem and I never dropped my phone,” commented another user. “Nothing has ever touched the back of my phone, so this is absurd. There are no marks. The camera still takes great photos, but for how long?”
Affected Pixel 7 users who contacted Google support were informed that the company's warranty policy does not cover physical damage to their smartphones.
"I was informed by @madebygoogle that since there was no physical damage, it was my fault. They told me it would cost over $400 to repair," wrote a user with the username @thverybestracer.
This suggests that a device may not be eligible for repair or replacement under warranty if it suffers physical damage, such as a cracked screen or water damage.
Some users received replacements, while others were rejected.
It remains to be seen how widespread the issue of the Pixel 7 glass breaking is or if it is a problem that only affects a specific batch. Either way, it is an issue that Google should address immediately.
