KB5020044 Windows 11: Released and brings 25 improvements

Microsoft has released the optional November preview cumulative update, KB5020044 , for all editions of Windows 11, version 22H2 . The new update brings 25 bug fixes and improvements, including OneDrive storage limit notifications and fixes for an issue that causes File Explorer to crash when closing context menus and menu items.

The KB5020044 preview update is part of Microsoft's monthly "C" update and allows Windows administrators to test fixes that will be released to all users with the December 2022 Patch Tuesday

It is worth noting that preview releases, such as KB5020044, are not security-related (like Patch Tuesday) and are optional.

You can install this update by going to Settings > Windows Update. Then click “Check for Updates.”

Remember, it's an optional Windows, which means if you want to get it, you have to install it manually by clicking the "Download and install" link. The preview update will only be installed automatically on Windows Insider builds.

  • The KB5020044 update combines Windows Spotlight with Themes on the Personalization page. This makes it easier to discover and enable the Windows Spotlight feature.
  • Addresses an issue that causes problems with File Explorer.
  • Addresses a known issue affecting the Input Method Editor (IME). Some applications may stop responding. This occurs when using keyboard to change the IME input mode.
  • Addresses an issue that may cause some applications to stop responding. This occurs when using the Open File dialog.

Microsoft said that KB5020044 is the last preview update of the year. There will be no further updates in December.
