Bug on Apple devices causes Safari to crash when certain letters are typed

A new, strange bug is plaguing some iPhone and iPad, preventing them from being able to search for specific words and characters using Safari. Many iOS 16 have taken to Twitter to voice their complaints and share screenshots showing the exact issues. It's still unclear what exactly is causing this problem.

This issue occurs when you type certain letters while using the address bar in Safari, causing the app to crash immediately. This error means you can’t complete your search or finish entering the URL of the website you want to visit. This iOS 16 bug affects all versions of the software. Oddly enough, iPhone users in certain countries don’t seem to be affected as much.

According to MacRumors, some of the words and searches that lead to this issue are “tar,” “bes,” “wal,” “wel,” “old,” “sta,” and “pla.” We can’t test all possible combinations that could cause a crash, so it’s impossible to say for sure what’s causing the issue.

It's possible that this is caused by a text rendering bug that affects the suggested results that appear in Safari when you start typing. Reports of the issue first appeared late Sunday night or early Monday morning, indicating a server-. This means that Apple will be able to fix the problem without having to release a separate software update.
