The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) has begun using what is believed to be the first electric fire truck in North America: the Rosenbauer RTX.
Rosenbauer, one of the largest fire truck manufacturers based in Austria, claimed to have built “the world’s first fully electric fire truck,” the Rosenbauer RTX.

In 2019, the company had sent the prototype to North America to show it to some fire departments.
The Menlo Park Fire District was the first to show interest in the electric fire engine and was aiming to secure the first order, but the LAFD was ultimately first on the list in February 2020. The department placed an order for the electric fire engine, which starts at $900,000, but the LAFD configured a version at $1.2 million.
The department recently took delivery of the vehicle, which made its official debut this weekend. The electric vehicle is being introduced to the LAFD's fire truck fleet.

Rosenbauer says the electric fire truck is equipped with a 360 kW electric system and a 132 kWh battery, which is good for two hours of operation.
It has all the necessary equipment you would expect in a fire truck.
It holds 500 to 750 gallons in water depending on its configuration and its pump has a capacity of 750 to 1,500 GPM.
