The social network Mastodon gained 30,000 new users in one day after purchase of Twitter 's Elon Musk.
According to Mastodon founder Eugen Rochko, the social network has seen a sudden growth since Musk expressed interest in taking over Twitter.
“ Mastodon’s monthly active user numbers have increased by 84,579 since the Twitter acquisition story broke on Monday, ” Rochko wrote in a post on Wednesday

The truth is that many users were not thrilled with the news that Twitter is now owned by billionaire Elon Musk. Many consider it extremely dangerous for such a powerful platform to fall into the hands of a single person.

The result is that many users are abandoning Twitter and looking for other social networking platforms. Among them is Mastodon, a social network that until now was not so popular.
Users are abandoning Twitter in droves, with many accounts losing tens of thousands of followers. For example, former US President Barack Obama lost 300,000 followers after announcing the sale of Twitter to Elon Musk. There have also been individuals who have seen their following grow, such as Marjorie Taylor Greene.
Regarding Mastodon, Rochko said that users are flocking to his service “because at Mastodon we present a vision of social media that cannot be bought and owned by any billionaire.”
However, the massive influx of users has caused some technical problems on the social network.

“Without a doubt, the sudden and explosive success is putting a strain on our resources, especially the public Mastodon servers that we, as a non-profit company, maintain ourselves: mastodon.social and mastodon.online,” he said in a post on Tuesday.
“We are working tirelessly to maintain the quality of service on mastodon.social and mastodon.online, but you may have noticed some issues,” he added. “We apologize for the inconvenience and are continuing to work to address these issues.”

Mastodon is similar to Twitter, but operates as a decentralized social network via thousands of independent servers , each with its own rules. Users simply sign up for the server of their choice and start browsing. Mastodon allows for microblogging (texts up to 500 words), sending photos and messages, and creating private accounts.
“Mastodon is free and open-source,” Rochko said. “It has no ads, it respects your privacy.”
However, Mastodon itself is a non-profit, so it doesn’t have the resources of a large tech company like Twitter or Facebook. The user base remains small. Rochko estimates that Mastodon has over 3 million registered users. Twitter has 217 million daily active users .

However, the Mastodon organization is working on improving the service. Last week, it released an official Android. “In the future, we plan to add end-to-end encrypted messaging along with further updates to our official app,” Rochko added.
