Hackers are being asked to reveal security vulnerabilities in computer systems used by the US military as part of the "Hack the Army" bug bounty program.
All hackers are invited to discover and disclose vulnerabilities in the US Department of the Army in a program managed by The Defense Digital Service (DDS) and HackerOne.
The goal is for cybersecurity researchers to discover and disclose security vulnerabilities in military systems so they can be fixed before they are discovered and exploited by malicious hackers. Hackers who discover the security flaws will receive a financial reward.
“Bug bounty programs are a unique and effective force multiplier for safeguarding critical networks, systems , and data and rely on the efforts of Army and DoD security professionals,” said Adam C. Volant, U.S. Army Director of Operations.
“With the help of the world’s best ethical hackers who will identify our vulnerabilities, we will patch systems to be as secure possible. Hack the Army 3.0 builds on the successes and lessons learned from previous bug bounty,” he added.
The bug bounty program runs from January 6, 2021 to February 17, 2021.
Hack the Army 3.0 is DDS' eleventh bug bounty program with HackerOne and the third with the US Army. Previous programs include Hack the Pentagon, Hack the Defense Travel System, and Hack the Air Force.
Participation in the Hack the Army 3.0 bug bounty challenge is open by invitation – to hackers and active US military personnel.
