In 2019, DDoS attacks reached 8.4 million. They are expected to increase in 2020, becoming one of the main threats to users, businesses, organizations, and government websites.

According to research, two-thirds of enterprise systems have faced 23,000 DDoS attacks per day – equivalent to 16 attacks every 60 seconds. The most powerful attack recorded reached 622 Gbps.

DDoS attacks are primarily aimed at disrupting online services. The attack typically involves a target system being bombarded with malicious traffic generated by infected systems. This exhausts resources, allowing the attackers to take control of the target system.

The main targets of DDoS attacks include telecommunications organizations, data processing services, and hosting providers.

Mirai and its variants continue to be a widely used botnet for “enslavement” of IoT devices . Overall , variants increased by 57%. In 2020, hackers have targeted mobile hotspots . In addition, they are creating more sophisticated attacks to avoid detection and achieve their goal without being disturbed.
